NSC moves forward to 2011: After a great first year in the new facility, further improvements promise to make 2011 even better.  Hi-tech new features will include improved classrooms with better A-V technology, as well as big screen TV for instruction and enjoying sailing videos.  HVAC improvements and upgraded furniture, will add to your enjoyment; and “Oh, that million dollar view from the front porch.” You won’t want to go home at the end of the day!

New Sailing Center featured in 7/2010 Asbury Park Press Article: Read an informative article about the “green” program at NSC.  Go to link -- click here.

“ASA's Featured Facility in the Spring 2010 Quarterly Journal”– the article details the facts (abundant indoor and outdoor space, great bathrooms, etc., etc.) and the “philosophy” (high technology, ecology-minded, etc.) of the new place.  Click here for the full text of the article in the ASA Quarterly Journal.

Nelson Sailing Center continues its outstanding record:  Congratulations to Captain Pete Must and Captain Tony Coia for again attaining ASA Instructor of the Year Award,

Want to Become an ASA Sailing Instructor?

A very special group of sailors feel the need to share their knowledge and love of sailing with others through sailing instruction. We take experienced instructors and expert sailors and give them the tools they need to become certified sailing instructors.
ASA Sailing Instructor clinics test existing skills and knowledge while teaching a structured curriculum and proven presentation techniques. Take the challenge and attend our ASA Instructor Qualification Clinic (IQC) here at Nelson Sailing Center in Island Heights.

Catamaran Completes Its 1st Season: Our fully refurbished Gemini 30 proved to be one of our most popular vessels in 2010.  Speedy, Roomy, Shoal Draft, Powerful Engine and tons of fun to sail.  If you haven’t yet sailed this one, fasten your seatbelt  -- it flies.  But with a safe cockpit, roomy interior, and a comfortable head, it had proven to be a great family boat.  Call Jenny for info.

Coastal Navigation Course – Spring  2011: coming early April, call.

You Asked For It! The Bulletin Board is Up and Running: intended to make it easy to contact sailing friends or make cooperative sailing arrangements.  See the lower part of the home page -- by the big "check mark".

Courses, 2011:   NJ Safe Boating Course will run regularly – schedule forthcoming.

Boat News: Fleet Improves and Grows : major upgrades of some of our most popular boats.  The Bristol 29.9 has a new, very powerful engine and new sails, plus a fresh look.   Major Refit on Sabre 28: sails great and now looks great. The Morgan 22 added recently to our fleet is being fully restored.   It features exceptional stability for a small boat.  This one is the proverbial "Brick Outhouse" -- try it, and see if a heavy pocket cruiser is your cup of tea! New Boats:  A new Oday 26 is in the fleet.  This is our largest O'day yet (excepting the 34 available for charters), and will please our large contingent of O'day fans.  Two additional immaculate Ensigns!  Also: a Seaward 25: to fill the growing requests for "larger small boats" with outboard power.

Sunset Sail Races -- New Activity at Nelson Sailing Center-- Experience sail racing on one of our boats as part of the Wednesday night series at Toms River Yacht Club.  You will race with an NSC instructor in a mixed class of large and medium boats.  There is nothing like racing to focus your attention and improve your sailing skills -- see courses page.

New Jersey Boating Law Now Requires Safe Boating Course for everyone.--This requirement, covering state waters, will be phased in, by age, over the next several years.  Nelson's is helping meet this important need for boater education by expanding our offerings of NJ Safe Boating.  See the Courses page for information.

Notice the New "Join E-Mail List" Button on the Home Page?:we are aiming to go "paperless" and toward that end we are setting up to simplify and make more accurate our e-mail operations. Your cooperation in submitting the information will be appreciated.  It is all in keeping with the desire to keep you informed about happenings, specials, and important changes around Nelsons.

* Big-Boat Options Prove Popular:  The recently acquired Pearson 35 – Osprey – made a lot of renters and students happy, including on ocean trips to as far as Block Island in 2010, and will be going out frequently in 2011.  Make your reservations early.  It is a rock-crusher and makes the bay or ocean feel like a lake.  It features a sea-kindly hull design such as you almost can’t buy anymore.  Feel what a REAL displacement hull is like.  And the Cal 34 is another boat like you will not find in "regular" rental fleets. It is equipped with a brand new diesel and the entire vessel has been fully refurbished.  This boat is fast, beautiful, and roomy.  Check it out and reserve early.

*Other newer boats to our fleet include the beautifully redone Sabre 28 - "Viking", and a sweet Cape Dory 25.  Both are great looking and great sailing boats.

*The refurbished Pearson Ensign fleet is available for lessons, rentals, and group activities.  We will have 7 top condition Ensigns.  If you have never sailed an Ensign, you must give it a try!

*Ask about t-shirts, gear bags, bay guides, hat keepers.  We now have an assortment of vending machine items.
