Description:
The Ensign is a classic design from the legendary Carl Alberg.  These boats were seriously overbuilt (extra thick fiberglass), but with such good lines that, despite their hefty construction, they are very fast.  With a full keel, a low center of gravity, low freeboard and ample sail area, they are terrific on all points of sail.  The design is seaworthy and easy to handle.  They sail well with main alone and they do well in light air, but the Ensign  really moves with a cockpit full of passengers (extra ballast) and all sails set in a brisk breeze.

We at Nelson's think they are beautiful, and both their looks and performance have earned them a place in the racing hall of fame.  You will be sold on their sailing performance after the first 1/2 hour.  In any case, each boat in the Ensign fleet at Nelson's has been restored to new condition, with fresh finish, upgraded hardware, and new sails.  Try one out!  You won't regret it.

The Ensign is the standard boat for Nelson's Basic Keelboat ("Learn to Sail") Sailing Course.
